Episode 3: In Which Dr Bombay Makes a House Call and Kay and Miguel Come Home

Episode 3

“Calling Dr. Bombay; calling Dr. Bombay! Emergency! Come right away!”

As always right on cue, Dr. Bombay appeared in Tabby’s living room. “Who the devil is calling me now? I was just shushing down the slopes of the Alps. Adam my boy it’s so good to see you.”

“Hi Dad. I need your advice. I think I really screwed up this time.” Adam quickly explained the situation to his father.

“I see, so what do you want to do about all this?”

“Well, I’ve been watching how everything turned out in Mother’s bowl and I think it would be best if I tried to reverse the spell”

“Oh, my boy, time is tricky thing. Especially since you said you used this Essme person’s wish to boost your magic. Wishcraft is a very powerful force. It could take triple the energy to reverse that type of spell.”

“So what am I supposed to do? I feel so guilty. Mother and Endora could be so happy right now or I guess I should say then.”

“Well I hate to admit it, but that Demon Elf creature is right about one thing. You have made Harmony a better place just by knocking Alistair Crane for a loop. Maybe not perfect but better.”

“What if I tried to convince Mother to be baptized?”

“Uh, oh, Houston we have a problem.” Said the Demon Elf, still watching from the porch. “And who does he think he is; calling me a creature?”

“Pipe down and listen.” Admonished Heckuba.

“I think it’s highly unlikely she’d agree to something like that.” And Dr. Bombay waved his hand over the magic bowl. “See how they had to drag her kicking and screaming to the font? The only reason she went through with it was because Endora was in danger.”

“Still, doesn’t she deserve…” Just then, they heard the sound of someone coming up from the basement. It was Kay and Miguel coming back from the other dimensions.

“We’re back!” Kay called out as she pushed the basement door open. Her eyes went wide when she saw the two men in the living room. “I don’t believe it, you’re Adam, Tabitha’s son.”

“And you’re Dr. Bombay! The Dr. Bombay!” Exclaimed Miguel.

“I told you Dr. Bombay was his Father.” Said Kay.

“Yes but to actually meet him in the flesh.”

“Not to worry my boy. I fully understand your amazement.”

“Adam, we’ve been looking all over for you, and I do mean all over.” Said Kay.

“Yes I know, the Darkside made sure you couldn’t find me. But luckily, I already knew about the danger to Harmony.” Again Adam explained his story leaving out how he had been duped by the Demon Elf and the alternate timeline.

“So, you mean we’re back in the last week of 2006? Asked Kay. “But if that’s true, what’s happened to the Boys? They should still be camped out in the basement.”

“They’re not down there?” Adam asked, genuinely surprised.

“No, the only thing down there is the portal to the other dimensions, That and a few of Fluffy’s chew toys.” Said Miguel. “I can’t believe I just said that.”

“Oh, honey, you’re still uncomfortable with all this aren’t you.” Asked Kay, as she gave Miguel a kiss on the cheek.

“Well…Yes, but I realized something on our little journey: Magic isn’t necessarily a bad thing. So… as long as you promise not to go overboard, you can practice your magic.”

“Tabitha is going to be so thrilled. Kay exclaimed. And she gave him another kiss. “Oh this does apply to her too doesn’t it?”

“And Endora and Maria; my word what am I getting myself into?” Asked Miguel.

“Well, about the basement,” Adam interjected. “I really have no explanation. Let’s just hope it’s a good sign.”

“As soon as we knew the time shift had taken place we got word to the Boys here to pack up and leave.” Explained Heckuba to the Demon Elf. “It’s not safe to have our base camp here in this house anymore, now that Tabitha can no longer be trusted.”

Someone appeared at the top of the stairs. “Who’s down here? Oh Kay I was wondering why you weren’t in our bed.”

“Fox?! You’re alive? I can’t believe it” Without thinking Kay ran up the stairs and threw her arms around Fox’s neck.

“Of course I’m alive.. At least for another few months.”

“Oh? Oh! And she swiftly disentangled herself. “No no no no no no. We have to get something straight right now. We all know that you were never sick. You were just trying to get my sympathy. And I also know about those actors you hired to pretend to be Charity and Miguel. You just need to get it through your head; I’m not marrying you. I’m marrying Miguel.” She held up her hand. “See, I’m wearing his ring. Oh, and if you or your father try to do anything to Miguel, I swear!”

“Well… I’m really not sure how you found out about all of this but you obviously feel enormously passionate about it. So.. If everyone will excuse me.” And he looked around the room for the first time. “I’m sorry, I just realized, I don’t think I’ve met anyone else here. Oh hi Miguel. Well, I’m just going to go get that midnight snack I was craving, again excuse me.” Fox moved quickly and disappeared into the kitchen.

“Kay, that was amazing.” Said Miguel.

“Oh..my..God! I’m thrilled he’s still alive.” Said Kay. But does this mean we’re going to have to go through his murder all over again?

“No.” Answered Adam. “While you were gone, everyone found out that Vicky was responsible for all the murders of Essme’s boyfriends. She also killed her parents. Essme has gone to her sister’s to make sure that does not happen again. You should also know that Essme knows Tabitha is a witch and she’s going to be staying here for a while.

“Come on Eustace. Said Heckuba. I think we’ve heard enough for now and there’s something I want to show you.

“Lead the way Madam.” And they both disappeared from the porch.

“Is there anything else we should know?” Asked Miguel.

“Well, yes. Vincent was responsible for killing Rae. But now Rae is alive and she’s going to stay that way because during the time shift, I was able to befriend Vincent and talk him into getting the counseling he needs. This also means that Luis is not going be charged with her murder or be sent to death row. On top of that, Judge Riley and Grace Nancier have been disbarred for prosecutorial and judicial misconduct.”

As the conversation in Tabby’s living room continues, let us shift our scene: several miles and deep underground to the abandoned mines just outside of Harmony.

“This will be the Darkside’s new base of operations here in Harmony.” And Heckuba through her arms up and out to encompass the space.

“Very impressive Madam.” Said the Demon Elf.

“Your quarters are just down that passage, but there’s someone in my quarters I would like you to meet.” Heckuba pushed open a door and the Demon Elf followed her.

“Say, this looks just like the inside of Jeanie’s bottle.” Observed the Demon Elf.

“Yes, well after being trapped in there so long I found that I had grown fond of the furnishings.”

“Go figure.”

“Sweetie are you still awake, if you are, come out here for a moment. I want you to meet your uncle Eustace.”

“Uncle.” The Demon Elf laughed.

And a little girl of about six or seven came out from an ajoining room. “Hello.”

“Eustace, may I present my daughter?”

“Hello sweetie what’s your name?”

“Sarah.”

“Her full name is Sarah Hotchkiss-Winthrop.” Heckuba announced.

Episode 2: In Which We Learn the Demon Elf's Real Name and Who Adam's Father is

Episode 2

“You lied to me Elf!”

“Actually I’m pretty sure that’s part of my job description. Besides I just didn’t show you everything. And you just lied to Tabitha a few minutes ago. You told her that Kay and Miguel found you when it was me all along. Yes they were looking for you but me and my Darkside buddies made sure they weren’t able to find you.”

“You showed me your battle with Endora after Mother sacrificed her powers, only you made it look like you defeated her then took her and our Mother and tied them to stakes right in the path of the erupting volcano.”

“Oh, if only that could have been true.”

“The truth is after Endora defeated you with her love for our Mother, you lost all that extra power the Darkside had given you. So when you heard Kay and Miguel were looking for help in other dimensions, you followed them and made sure you found me before they did. Then you made me believe the only way to save Harmony was to turn back time, but I knew that I didn’t have enough power to do that on my own.”

“I must admit even I was impressed when you came up with idea of using Essme’s unused wishes to boost your powers.”

“Yes, but an alternate timeline was created, and that’s how I know you tricked me. I’ve been watching what would have happened in Mother’s bowl, so I know if I had done nothing; the catastrophe would have been averted without my help. Everyone in Harmony including my Mother and sister would have lived…”

The Demon Elf threw up his hands and covered his ears. “Don’t you say it!”

“…Happily Ever After!!” Adam shouted.

“We Darksiders hate that phase.”

“Yes, I know.” Adam laughed.

“By turning back time you’ve averted a catastrophe (as far as the Darkside is concerned anyway).”

“And what’s that?”

“You just said it: Ultimate happiness for Harmony. The Darkside just couldn’t put up with that. But don’t feel so bad. Why just by you putting the kibosh on old Al, you’ve saved quite a few lives.”

“Yeah, I’m sure the Darkside is just thrilled about that.”

“Of coarse not, but it’s a matter of degrees my friend. Well would you look at the time. I’d love to continue this little post mortem but it’s well past my bedtime. Have a ghastly evening.”

The Demon Elf disappeared, only to reappear seconds later on Tabby’s front porch. He peered in the window and watched Adam, who was looking intently into the magic bowl.

“He’s falling in nicely with our plans. Isn’t he Eustace?” Someone else had joined him on porch and he recognized her voice immediately.

“Madam,- - you know my real name - - They told me you might be working with me on this assignment but I never thought I’d meet you this soon - - May I say this is a genuine honor - -

“Enough groveling, the Boys thought you could use my help after you were unable to defeat Endora, and you may call me Heckuba.”

“I’ve read so much about your exploits, to actually be in your presence…”

“I said no groveling! Now I was given to understand that it was your idea to use Adam to counteract the ‘incident’?”

“Well, I had always heard that Tabitha had had a son.”

“Then you know who his father is?”

“That quack Dr. Bombay.”

“Yes, Tabby was always obsessed with fictional magical characters. Bewitched was her favorite show, but she had a fling once with Barnabas Collins as well. No danger of any offspring there. However I digress. As soon as Adam was born Bombay had him shipped off to another dimension. He was afraid Tabitha would be a bad influence on him. Tabby hardly even noticed Adam was gone; she was so focused on her evil mission back then.”

“But she’s been flirting with Goodness lately.”

“She did more than just flirt with it in that other timeline. We have to make the most of the second chance you and Adam have given us. She must not decide to take the final step into Goodness again.”

“Well it would seem the best way to do that would still be to separate her from Endora.”

“No, the Boys have decided to take another tact, for now. Her love for Tabby is just too strong. But she’ll be a rebellious teenager soon enough and then we’ll reevaluate. Our focus right now has to be Adam. He helped us with our little “problem” but only because you duped him. He’s a Goodie-Goodie just like his father. We have to keep him distracted so he doesn’t spill the beans to Tabitha or Endora. Tabitha must never know that she has the power to bring true Harmony to Harmony by being baptized.”

“So, how are we supposed to keep him distracted?”

“As I said, he’s already falling in nicely with our plan. Look at him; he hasn’t taken his eyes off Tabitha’s bowl since you left him.”

“Why is that?”

“He’s fascinated with the events of that alternate timeline that was created after he shifted time.”

“What’s he looking at now?”
“Let’s find out.” Heckuba waved her hands and the image in the bowl appeared in the air in front of them. “Ah yes, it’s Sam Bennett’s video camera.”

“Why would he be interested in that?”

“Remember that for the past nine years, Adam has been watching the events in Harmony via a television program I believe the mortals refer to as a soap opera. I think it was called Passions. In that time, I’m afraid our poor dear Adam has fallen for one of the denizens of this quaint little berg.”

“Wait a minute, that video camera has Gwen Hotchkiss and her shrew of a mother confessing to all the schemes they carried out on …you don’t mean?”

“Exactly, he might not be fully aware of it himself but Adam Lennox-Bombay is hopelessly in love with none other than Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald-Crane.”

Episode 1: In which Tabitha is reminded she also has a son...

Tabitha awoke with a start and immediately knew something was wrong. “Where the devil am I?” But she realized that she had apparently just dozed off on her own sofa. Still, something was wrong. Then she saw him. Alistair Crane seemed to be asleep in the chair next to her. “Oh my devil, what fresh hell is this?!!”

“Quiet, you might wake the old goat up. But then again I doubt it. What with that sleeping spell I put on him.”

“You?!”

“It’s me, your son Adam. Are you happy to see me Mom?”

“What are you doing here?!”

“I just thought it was well past time for a Lennox Family Reunion. I’ve been watching you, you know, watching all of Harmony for that matter. That and when Kay and Miguel were in the other dimensions they found me. ”

“Other dimensions? I don’t..”

“What’s the last thing you do remember, Mother?”

Tabby sat up and blinked. Everything was so fuzzy, but it soon began to dawn on her.

“The church. That twit Essme convinced me to sacrifice my powers! And for what? A bunch of pesky mortals who would sooner see me burnt at the stake?”

“Yes but you made the choice all by yourself and you did it for Endora.”

“Oh my devil, Endora, where is she? We have to get her out of Harmony!”

“Calm down Mother, you see, we’re not exactly where you think we are, or I should say when you think we are?”

“What?”

"Let me start from the beginning: When Kay and Miguel found me, I was already well aware of the plight Harmony was in, you see in the dimension they found me; the town of Harmony is a fictional place. It exists only as the setting of a soap opera called Passions. For the last nine years I’ve been watching this show, knowing full well that in another dimension Harmony actually existed. Unfortunately Passions has been cancelled now, twice actually, so I realized, the only way I was going to be able to see you and Endora would be to travel to the dimension where Harmony really exists.”

“Just what did you mean when you said we’re not when I think we are?”

“Well specifically, we’re in the last week of December 2006, so you see now why you don’t have to worry about Endora. She’s upstairs in her room asleep. We have months and months to avert the disaster The Book of Disasters predicted. I thought about bringing us back another month so Endora could celebrate Thanksgiving; I know how much she loves that particular holiday. ”

“Yes well it’s just as well that you didn’t. You know how she tends to go overboard on that day but I still don’t understand how or why you brought us here.”

“Part of it has to do with Essme and part of it has to do with Grumpy over there getting his beauty sleep on your couch. You see, Big Al is going on a little vacation; A more or less permanent one.”

“Oh my, well if I remember correctly, the Boys are still camped out in the Basement at this point. We could just push him down the stairs.”

“No, I have a better idea, and I don’t want to involve the Darkside in any of this.”

“And why do you want to get rid of the old gasbag? Not that I’m complaining mind you.”

“At this point everyone still believes Alistair is dead; His train attacked by that missile.”

“Yes, and in a few months he will be for real: Shot at the hands of that brat Vicky.”

“But not before he goads Vincent into becoming a vicious serial killer. Without his influence, Vincent stands a chance of getting the treatment he needs. And then there’s what he did, or would have done to Luis and Pretty.”

“OK I’ll bite, where are you planning to send him?”

“Again the question is not where but when: England 1483”

“1483? Why does that year sound so familiar? Ah, yes the year Richard III usurped the throne from those two bratty nephews of his. What memories that brings back. Did I ever tell you I was Edward VI’s mistress?”

“Yes, mother and I don’t want to hear about it again.”[i]

“Well, in that case, since you’ve assured me that Endora is not in any immediate danger, I think I’m going to turn in for the evening.”

“Don’t you want to know how Essme figures in all this?”

“Whatever you have to tell me about that ditzy mortal can certainly wait till the morning.”

“Oh, by the way, I’ve been looking forward to sampling a real Martimmy. Do you think you could do the honors?”

Without thinking, Tabitha waved her hand and a shaker of Martimmies appeared on the table. “Oh my devil, what just happened?”

“That’s right; in this timeline you still have your powers.”

“You mean I have my full powers?”

“Yes, as far as I know.”

“Well, this calls for a celebration; you may as well finish your story, while I join you in a little refreshment. This batch looks particularly delicious if I do say so myself.”

“You remember the three wishes you promised Essme, if she would help you find Endora?”

“The inane little thing must have had me confused with a djinn or maybe a leprechaun.”

“The point is you promised to grant them to her and that created a mystical bond between you and Essme; sort of like activating a credit card. Now since you only fulfilled one of her wishes and neither of you really came to terms on the last wish, I was able to use the power of that last wish combined with my own natural powers to turn back time. But I had to have Essme’s permission to use the wish which means that she still remembers you’re a witch and part of the deal was that she gets to stay here in your house.”

“How could you strike a deal like that without talking to me first?”

“Because, you wouldn’t have agreed to it.”

“You bloody well better believe I wouldn’t have.

“Mother, You and Endora; the whole town was in danger. I had to do something.”

“The town could rot for all I care. But what’s done is done. Where is Essme? I need to have a little chat with her.”

“I’m afraid you’ll have to wait till she gets back from making sure Vicky doesn’t kill her sister and brother in law. I gave her an elixir that will make sure they believe her when she tells them they have a serial killer for a daughter.”

“Well like I said; I’ve had just about enough for one night. I shall see you in the morning.

“Good Night Mother.”

As Tabby ascended the stairs, Adam turned his attention back to the slumbering misanthrope on the sofa.

“Have a nice life Mr. Crane. As a side affect of my sleeping spell you won’t remember your existence here in Harmony. In fact, you won’t remember much of anything. I’m sure you’ll adjust to your new time period though. You’ll have to.” Adam smiled thinking about the hard times that lay ahead for his drowsing “friend”. He waved his arms and Alistair was on his way back to 1483.

“Good riddance to bad rubbish I always say.”

Adam whirled from the sofa and looked toward the foyer, The Demon Elf stood under the archway of the living room rubbing his hand together.
