Episode 21
“Dr. Vaughn, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.” Said Eve as she seated herself behind her desk. She had finally found the time to return his call.
“I fully understand and may I ask, how is your daughter doing?”
“My daughter?”
“She collapsed after her wedding?”
“Yes but how did you know?”
“It was in the papers.”
“Ah yes, I sometimes forget how fascinated the people in this area are with the goings on in Harmony, Home of the Cranes.”
“People around the world are fascinated with the Cranes.”
“Something Alistair Crane will never let us forget; at least until his disappearance this past summer. Now what was it that you had called me about?”
“Well as I told you before we have had a patient here for almost 8 years in a persistent coma.”
“And how can I help you with that?”
“In the last few weeks her vital signs and brain activity have spike several times but she never seems to regain consciousness.” I would appreciate it if you could find the time to come to Castleton and examine her for me.”
“I still don’t understand why you think I could find something you have overlooked.”
“Really doctor your reputation proceed you.”
“Thank you for your confidence but…”
“Doctor Russell, I’ve been dealing with this patient for years; it never hurts to have a fresh pair of eyes look over a case.”
“Well, I may have some time on…Friday.”
“That would be wonderful Dr Russell. I will be looking forward to meeting you.”
“Good day, Dr. Vaughn.”
“Eve, do you have time to help me with something?” Sam leaned his head into the office.
“Of coarse Sam, come in, have a seat. It’s been too long since we’ve talked. Is there anything new with you?”
“Well as a matter of fact, it looks like Grace is coming home tomorrow.”
“Oh, Sam, that’s wonderful. Is she coming home to stay?”
“It’s too early to tell.”
“Is David coming with her?”
“I don’t want to burden you with my problems you have enough on your plate. But to answer your question no I think Grace will be coming home alone. Now, I was hoping that your expertise might come in handy on a case I’m working on.”
“I can certainly try but listen, I’m never to busy for you. You can lean on me anytime.”
“Thank you Eve, oh by the way, have you spoken to Simone?”
“This must have something to do with Jared Casey. Yes, Simone phoned me right after. It must have been awful. Do you have any leads or suspects?”
“Not yet. Last night Jared’s body disappeared from the morgue.”
“My word!”
“The coroner hadn’t started the autopsy, but he had taken some preliminary photos. Could you take a look at them for me?”
“Certainly. I assume you’ve already spoken to the coroner?”
“Yes and he was most interested in this photo of Jared’s neck area.”
“Let me see. That..That can’t be!”
“So you see it too?”
“Yes. It would seem that Jared Casey has a set of gills!”

Episode 20: In Which Gwen gets Flowers and Eustace Finds out the Terms of Tabitha's Agreement with Heckuba
Episode 20
“I’m sorry Mother.” Said Gwen. “But I just don’t have time for a visit this morning. I’m already late as it is.”
“Really Gwen, I can’t believe you stayed on at that place, after you found out that that little chiluppa paid your boss to hire you so she could have some alone time with your hunky hunkster husband.”
“Mr. Caruthers and I reached an understanding about the circumstances of my original employment. And besides, I genuinely enjoy the work. It’s what I’m trained for.”
“Okay but don’t be surprised if you come home one day and find Teracita in bed with Ethan.”
“Theresa’s been so preoccupied with Whitney’s wedding that she hasn’t bothered us lately.”
“Hello! The wedding’s over.”
“There is something that’s been bothering me.”
“I knew it!”
“Theresa was acting strangely at the wedding.”
“So, what else is new?”
“No, this was different. It was like she was keeping a secret from me.”
“Ah Ha! About her and Ethan!”
“That’s just it: I don’t think so but I intend to find out.”
“As long as you don’t turn your back on the little hussy.”
“Believe me Mother I have no intention of doing that.”
There was a knock at the door.
“Who is it?” Asked Gwen.
“Flower delivery.”
“Ah now there’s a good sign; Ethan is thinking of you and not that horrid Terrortita.”
Gwen opened the door and accepted the flowers.
“Oh aren’t they beautiful?” Said Becky.
“Yes.” Said Gwen, looking at the card. “But their not from Ethan.
“So…you could have monitored the kids like this yesterday, but you had me chasing them around all day?” Said Eustace.
“Are you complaining?” Asked Heckuba, she and Eustace were watching the kids set out on their journey on one of the huge monitors in her chamber.
“Me?! Complain?! Of course not, I was just wondering why?”
“As you may recall I had other concerns at the cave and then I was busy for the rest of the day. I needed you to keep an eye on Sarah…”
“…So you could be sure she was safe?”
“So I could be sure nothing happened to jeopardize my plan. And besides I still may need you to track the kids in the field if…”
“…we see their in any danger?”
“Just what are you driving at Eustace?”
“Oh I don’t know. Maybe I want you to admit that you care about Sarah as if she were your own daughter.”
“SHE IS MY DAUGHTER!!!”
“And that proves my point. Listen all I’m saying is you might want to consider what the Boys would do, should they realize how…attached you are to Sarah. ”
“If you so much as think about telling them anything!”
“Oh please, me talk to the Boys? I like my life too much. But they aren’t blind. I don’t have to remind you what happened to Tabitha.”
“Funny you should mention Tabby. We came to a bit of a bargain after you left yesterday.”
“A bargain?”
“Yes, you remember Faith, Grace’s sainted sister?”
“Isn’t she a vegetable in a hospital somewhere out of town?”
“For the moment, yes. And I promised Tabitha she would stay that way as long as she stays out of the Darkside’s way.
“Isn’t Faith as much of a threat to our side as she is to Tabitha?”
“I suppose so.”
“Then why don’t we just off her and be done with it?”
“Don’t think we’ve tried? She’s under a spell of protection.”
“Who would have done that?”
“We don’t know for sure but my guess is it’s that brat of daughter of hers.”
“Charity?”
“The same.”
“But she doesn’t even know that she’s a witch.”
“Apparently while Tabitha was keeping Miguel from finding Charity all those years, she neglected to make sure she also never found out the truth about herself.”
“So Charity…”
“Yes, she has become aware that she is a witch.”

Episode 19: In Which Essme Tries to Prove her Existence and the Kids Have a Meeting in the Back Yard
Episode 19
“This isn’t good Kay.” Said Tabitha. “This isn’t good at all. Now I have not one but two apprentice witches living under my roof.”
“I’m not quite as bad as I used to be.”
“Yes, yes, I know that dear, but you still have so much to learn. And now, Essme with powers; why, that’s like giving a pyromaniac a book of matches.
“Excuse me I’m standing right here. Pointed out Essme.
“Why couldn’t you have used that last wish on something else, anything else? Why did you just leave it hanging out there? But that’s my fault I should have reminded you. Oh I don’t know I just don’t know. At this point Maria knows more about magic than you do.”
“Again- - Me- - standing- - right- - here.” Said Essme.
“It’s alright Tabitha.” Said Kay. “We can teach her.”
“Oh that’s rich ‘We’.”
“Tabitha?!”
“I’m sorry dear it’s just with all I’m dealing with right now this is the last thing I needed.”
The three women were so absorbed in their conversation that they didn’t notice that Endora and Mariah had left the kitchen for the living room.
“There’s never a dull moment around here with your mom and my mom.” Bubbled Maria.
“You said it.” Bubbled Endora.
“Hey why don’t we go outside and check out the pony Essme conjured?”
“Lead the way.”
When the two little witches stepped outside they were met by Marty, Sarah and James coming through the gate.
“We were just coming over here to talk to you two.” Said Marty.
“Or your moms.” Put in Sarah.
“Our moms are busy in the kitchen right now with Essme.” Bubbled Maria.
“What did you want?” Bubbled Endora.
“We were wondering about the pony in your back yard.” Said Marty.
“I haven’t seen it yet.” Bubbled Endora. “We were just coming out here to look at it. Oh there it is.”
“Are you going to ask them Marty?” Said James.
“Ask us what?” Bubbled Endora.
“When he saw the pony James had this idea that we could borrow it to help us try to find Sarah’s Mom.”
“That sounds like it would be a fun adventure.” Bubbled Maria. Can we come?”
“I don’t see why not.” Said Marty.
“But where do we start?” Bubbled Endora.
“Why don’t you and Maria use your magic to help us figure it out?”
“James!” Marty scolded.
“What? They’re witches aren’t they? And why hasn’t Sarah used her powers to try to find her Mommie? She’s a witch too isn’t she? Remember how she rubbed a hole in the kitchen door.”
Sarah looked stricken. “No one else was supposed to know. Marty I meant to tell you not to tell anyone about my powers and then I forget and use them in front of James.”
“It’s alright Sarah. I promise…and James does too; not to say anything to anyone. Right James?”
“Right.”
“It’s just that I got so worried yesterday when I heard Endora’s mom say to that man Julian that the town would burn you at the stake if they found out you were a witch.”
“I don’t think they do that anymore.” Bubbled Endora.
“But it’s sill a good idea to keep quiet about it.” Bubbled Maria.
“So, do you think you can find Sarah’s Mom by using your powers?”
“I don’t know but we can try.” Bubbled Endora
“Let’s try something simple.” Bubbled Maria. “She is a girl we met only yesterday/The house next door is where she’s now from/Please can we see Sarah’s Mom.”
An image of a house appeared in the air before them.
“That must be where she’s staying.” Bubbled Endora.
“But I’ve never seen that place before.” Said a confused Sarah.
“We need to go check it out.” Bubbled Endora
“I’m game if you guys are.” Said Marty.
“Now we could just pop over there but we said we wanted and adventure.” Bubbled Maria. “I think James had the right idea. Let’s take turns riding the pony.”
“And to guide us on our way.” Endora reached into the image in front of them and pulled out a piece of parchment. “This map.”
The fivesome were soon on their way with the image of the boarding house where Ethan and Gwen live slowly fading behind them.

Episode 18: In Which James looks out the Window, Grace has a Welcome Visit and Adam Makes an Unpleasant Discovery
Episode 18
“Well Jessica, are you ever going to answer my question?”
“Your question Ivy?”
“Jessica, who is Sarah?”
“The truth is I don’t know.”
“You don’t know? But I take it you and Sam are going to let her live here with us.”
“She and Marty had been in the woods outside town and they came running into the Book CafĂ© yesterday. We were all so happy that Marty was safe and then he told us that Sarah’s Mom had disappeared after taking her out for a picnic and they couldn’t find her.”
“And that’s all you know?”
“That’s all I know for sure. Why are you grilling me like this?”
“I just asked a simple question.”
On the other side of the kitchen door were three sets of curious ears belonging to Marty, Sarah, and James.
“What are they saying; it sounds like an argument?” Asked Sarah.
“I can’t tell.” Said Marty.
“Here, let me try something.” Sarah rubbed her hand over the door as if clearing condensation from a fogged window and slowly a transparent circle appeared in the door. “There, now we can see and hear them but they can’t see or hear us.”
“If you’re uncomfortable with Sarah living here you could always move out. Said Jessica.
“Oh now we get to it. You’re still jealous that I’m with your Father.”
“I’m not going to lie to you Ivy. I wish David Hastings had never come to town and taken my Mother away from my Dad. That’s never going to change.”
“Oh Marty, that lady doesn’t like me at all, does she?” Sarah began to cry.
“Don’t cry Sarah.”
“I wish I knew where my Mommie was.”
“Hey guys.” Said James, who had moved to the window.
“Not now James.” Said Marty in an irritated big brotherly tone. “Listen Sarah, you like Jessica and Sam right,?”
“Yes.” Sarah sniffled.
“Well I’m sure they’re going to let you stay here and help you find your Mom no matter what that other lady thinks.”
“You really think so?”
“I do.”
“Maybe you’re right.”
“Guys?”
“What is it James?” Said Marty in the same tone as before.
“There’s a pony in yard next door; maybe we can try to find Sarah’s Mom ourselves while we’re riding the pony.
“James, that pony probably belongs to Endora or Maria.”
Then Marty looked over and saw that Sarah had brightened at James’ suggestion.
“All right you two I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go next door and ask.” Said Marty.
The phone had gone dead because Grace had dropped the handset when John walked through the door.
“Sam? Sam are you still there? We must have been cut off. John! I’ve been so worried. Where have you been?
“I thought I could track down Dad on my own. I went to all the places we would go to when I was a little boy and he would take me to Greece; but no luck.”
“I’m really starting to think that it’s not safe for me to stay in Greece and I’ve booked a flight back to Harmony.”
“You’re going back to Harmony?”
“Yes, I want to find your Father, but I just can’t shake the feeling that I’d be in danger anywhere in Europe. I can’t explain it. It would be a big help, if you could go back to London and close up the house for me.
“Sure, I can do that for you, but there must be some other way that we haven’t thought of to find Dad. Maybe I could take a look at that bust you mentioned?”
“I already sent it back to the States. Just before we were cut off, Sam told me it had arrived. I don’t think it would be any help finding David though. It has some kind of connection to Alistair. From what I’ve been able to piece together Alistair spent some time here in Greece when he was a young man; not much older than you are now.”
“Why does everything seem to lead back to that man?”
“The people in Harmony have been asking that question for years.”
“Come on lighten up. Why don’t you just tell the woman how you feel?” Said Vincent.
“I can’t do that, can I? Even if I wanted to, now that she thinks I’m Valerie’s boyfriend.” And Adam heaved a sigh.
“Sorry about that.”
“Well you should be.”
“Sorry to break up your little coffee clutch gentlemen.” Mr. Jamison was standing in the break room door. “But in case you hadn’t noticed we have newspaper to run. At least I do. I tell you my brother Jonah would never put up with slackers like you two.
“Just tell us what you need Mr. Jamison.” Said Adam.
“What I need? What I need? Let me see. Well you could get your butts down to the morgue Lennox!”
“The morgue sir?”
“Yes, Clarkson, the morgue. That bug we have at the police station paid off once again. Jared Casey’s body has disappeared from…You guessed it: The morgue!”
This just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Thought Adam to himself.
A few minutes later, Vincent and Adam were standing on the corner across the street from the morgue. They could see Sam’s police car parked out front.
“So, now what are we supposed to do?” Asked Vincent.
“I guess we wait and see if we can get a statement from Sam or Luis when they come out.”
As it turned out, they didn’t have to kill that much time before they saw the two cops walking back to the vehicle.
“Well, that was a wasted trip. All it did was confirm what we already knew: Jared Casey’s body is missing.” Sam was saying.
“Even by Harmony standards, this is a strange case. Say did I hear you talking to Grace on the phone before?”
“Yeah and I’m worried. We were cut off.
“But she’s still coming home?”
“That’s what she said. She’s supposed to be on the first flight to Harmony tomorrow.”
Tomorrow, thought Adam. She’s a little early, but at least I’m ready for her. Only then did he realize that the marble from Timmy wasn’t in his pocket where he had put it.

The Dog Ate My Homework
Obviously I was a little over optimistic on how fast my schedule would return to normal after the Holidays. My previous post is what passes for the latest episode. That's why I have dubbed it Episode 17.0. I really do feel as if I deserve an incomplete on my homework. I promise next week I will return with a fully robust Episode 18.
Until then Happy New Year

“There you are Endora, fresh blueberry pancakes, hot off the griddle; whipped up as fast as my fingers can snap.”
“Thank you Mommie.” Bubbled Endora.
“You’re welcome Sweet Pea. Oh hello Maria is your Mommie up?”
“Yes, she’s in the living room with Essme.” Bubbled Maria. “Hey Endora, want see my new pony?”
“What’s this Maria?” Asked Tabitha. “You conjured your own pony? I know your daddy said we could practice magic but I don’t think he’d approve of you…”
“But I didn’t.” Bubbled Maria.
“Don’t tell me your Mommie…?”
“No Tabitha I didn’t either.” Said Kay, coming into the kitchen with Essme. “I’m afraid we have a little problem.”
“It was me.” Said Essme. “I just zapped a pony into your living.”
“You what!?”
“Don’t worry I popped him outside to the back yard.” Said Kay. “The girls can play with him later but I’m sure Miguel will want us to send him back and like I said we have a little problem. Apparently, Essme just gave herself magical powers.”
“How is that possible?” Asked Tabitha.
“Well, near as I can figure, you promised Essme three wishes: You granted her one, Adam used one to create the time shift so that left one just hanging out there. Until just now when Essme mentioned to me and Maria that she would love to have powers just like us.”
“Oh my stars and garters, you’re probably right Kay. Oh this could be disastrous!”
“You’re telling me Tabby.” Said Essme. “I was planning on asking for three more wishes…but this could be better.”
“I still can’t believe you kissed me like that in front of Theresa and Ethan yesterday.” Said Adam.
“It was the only thing I could think of that would explain why Valerie was talking to you.” Said Vincent.
“Well you should have thought harder!”
“If only you could have seen the look on your face.” Said a smiling Vincent.
“I don’t believe it, you’re enjoying this. It’s not like my life wasn’t already complicated.”
“Come on lighten up. Why don’t you just tell the woman how you feel?”
“I can’t do that, can I? Even if I wanted to, now that she thinks I’m Valerie’s boyfriend.”
“Sorry about that.”
“Well you should be.”
